Applejack, hard cider, or something else? (story below)?

my best friends great grandfather distilled his own spirits during the time of the prohibition and used apples as the main ingredient. well he had many bottles of his homemade spirits left over when he died and life a bottle to each of his descendants in his will (she told me to hopeful for one to continues making the stuff) well she had the bottle in her room since she was a baby and since she just turned 21 two days ago she was hoping to drink if for her party, as a toast with all her friends. well we tasted it, only about a shot but it didn't taste like booze at all. you could tell it was alcoholic from the smell but it mostly tasted like apple sauce and now we're really curious what it really is. her mom said it was apple jack and her dad told her just hard cider. what do you think?
