Why it is illegal to own cheetah?

i live in indian(himanchal pradesh)there are lot of cheetahs and many other wild animals there and like written in this link http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_cheetahs_dangerous they dont kill humans they are affraid of humans so i have a very big space and a lot of food for it can i get one from the wild.i know it needs licence but cheetah is my favourite animal (i have many animals like hawk,golden eagle,etc)but cheetah is a wild animal so i m asking
