Looking for somewhere cheap but nice to stay in london?

Ireland will play Colombia in May this year and im just looking for a cheap but nice place to stay. Want to be near the pubs also or places to go. I know Craven cottage is pretty central so i suppose somewhere near there or not too far away. Cheers!
